As continuation of this post where our comrades at @shit-tankies-say very concisely pointed out that the “prison abolitionist” ‘restorative justice’ programme puts victims on the same level as their assailants, now comes the question of how does this ‘community’ based revolutionary idea pretend to deal with perpetrators themselves?

Why, more immaterial idealism of course:

To summarise and to quote the text above: the goal isn’t punishment, the goal is a series of long painstaking procedures in which you should but you shouldn’t or should you alienate the perpetrator. Using force amounts to “public call outs”, and in case the perpetrator decides to move elsewhere, send a letter? To your nearest community and they’ll figure out how to solve the problem (who or what forms this community is a mystery to be solved, and obviously this hypothetical community runs on good will, a well accepted currency under capitalism). Who cares about the victims? The real victims here are the rapists!

‘Transformative justice’ offers you, the victim, the lack of option as to whether you can condemn or not the person who caused you long lasting trauma and mental health issues – that option is left to a bunch of spineless, love-for-all liberals who may even refer to themselves as “leftists” or “communists” but appear to reject materialism and materialist analysis. These are the sort of people who will call on for “compassion” and that “leftism is based on compassion” – class struggle is based on revolutionary processes, it’s based on revolutionary violence against the enemies of workers, against the enemies of the proletariat.

Hetero-patriarchal violence is both an enemy and ally of workers – it’s a contradiction that continues to exist under socialism and like all contradictions it requires a communist party and mass work to be properly addressed, not vague theoretical committees of people who have no means to be committed to what they advocate for.

Perhaps the pinnacle of hypocrisy is the call for morality from leftists who have never flinched at anyone saying that landlords, capitalists, fascists, and so on should be executed for their crimes against workers, against exploited peoples.

However, dare you argue for the execution of rapists you will be labelled as a fascist, reactionary, KKK supporter who wants to organise militias to lynch black people and so on. Such has been the case for the past week where victims of rape were labelled with such vile terms by people who advocate for spineless justice, by people who are friends with rapists themselves, by people who hate women and would love to see nothing more than women suffering.

This is what restorative justice calls for: the alienation of victims while their abusers, their assailants are showered with compassion and comprehension.

Nothing of this has anything to do with Marxism or any revolutionary process: it’s liberalism, capitalist liberalism in sheep’s clothing.
